Backup retainer sets
A backup set can give you another custom upper-and-lower pair if your everyday retainers are lost or damaged. Mavira offers two sets for $150 total ($75 per set) and three sets for $180 total ($60 per set). One set is one upper retainer plus one lower retainer, and ordering extras is optional.
Why consider a spare retainer?
Less disruption after a loss
Retainers can be left in a restaurant napkin, misplaced while traveling, or reached by a pet. A usable spare may let you follow your normal retention routine while deciding what to do next.
A ready replacement for damage
Clear retainers can crack, warp, or wear over time. A backup made from the same accepted impressions provides another option if the everyday pair becomes unusable.
One set kept in a separate place
Some people keep a spare in a secure location away from the daily set. This can be useful for travel, school, or a second household, provided it is stored correctly.
What do Mavira backup sets cost?
| Option | Total retainers | Total price | Effective price per set |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 set | 1 upper + 1 lower | $120 | $120 |
| 2 sets | 2 uppers + 2 lowers | $150 | $75 |
| 3 sets | 3 uppers + 3 lowers | $180 | $60 |
The three-set option is $180 at checkout. Its effective price is $60 for each matched upper-and-lower set; $60 is not the total price for three sets. Confirm current pricing and shipping terms on the product page and at checkout.
Who may benefit from a backup?
A spare may be practical if you travel often, have previously lost or damaged a retainer, share time between two homes, or want to avoid starting a new replacement order immediately after an accident. A second set also makes the most sense when you have a secure way to store it.
That does not mean everyone needs multiple sets. One set is a complete upper-and-lower pair and may be the right choice when you want the lowest order total. Your dentist or orthodontist may also have specific guidance based on your treatment history and retention plan.
How to store a spare set
Use a protective, ventilated case
A case helps prevent crushing, contamination, and accidental disposal. Do not wrap a clear retainer in a tissue or napkin, where it is easy to overlook.
Keep it clean and completely dry
Follow the care instructions provided with the retainers. Let the set dry before long-term storage so moisture is not trapped inside the case.
Avoid heat and direct sunlight
Do not leave retainers in a hot car, near a heater, or in hot water. Excess heat can distort clear material and change how it fits.
Inspect it before use
Look for cracks, warping, rough edges, discoloration, or another visible change. A spare should seat normally without being forced.
Before switching to a stored set
A backup retainer is made for the tooth position captured by the impressions used at the time of the order. If your teeth or bite have changed since then, the spare may not fit as expected. Retainers are designed to help maintain tooth position; they are not designed to actively move teeth back into place.
Do not force a backup retainer
If the set does not seat fully, causes significant or persistent pain, or your bite feels different, stop and seek guidance from a licensed dentist or orthodontist. You should also arrange professional care for swelling, bleeding, sores, loose teeth, suspected decay, or another active dental issue.
How multiple Mavira sets are made
The order begins with one at-home impression process for the upper and lower teeth. After usable impressions are accepted, the lab fabricates the quantity selected from those impressions. The completed sets are then sent to the shipping address on the order. Learn more about Mavira's lab process and review shipping and fit-support information before purchasing.
Backup retainer questions
Does one set include both arches?
Yes. One Mavira set includes one upper clear retainer and one lower clear retainer.
How is the $60-per-set price calculated?
The three-set package costs $180 total. Dividing that total by three matched sets gives an effective price of $60 per set.
Should I wear two sets in rotation?
Use retainers according to the schedule and instructions given by your dental professional. If you are considering a rotation schedule, ask that professional whether it is appropriate for you.
What if a spare no longer fits?
Do not force it. A fit change can reflect movement, material distortion, or another issue that requires assessment. Contact a dentist or orthodontist, and use the Mavira support page for questions about the order.
Choose the number of sets that fits your needs
Order one complete upper-and-lower set for $120, two for $150, or three for $180.
